Last night saw the Teddy Bear Toss, where stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice after the Red Wings scored their first goal. The Red Wings wasted no time scoring, with Dawson Atamanchuk scoring for the Wings in the first two minutes of play.

"It's always successful, Weyburn's a great community and great support and the Red Wings are awesome about letting us come to their game," says Jennifer Lorinczy, Community Ministries Coordinator for the Weyburn Salvation Army.

Although estimations were thought to be around the 100 mark, the actual total was 227 stuffed toys, $200 worth of cash donations and a few toques and mittens being donated as well.

Accompanied by the Weyburn Scouts, the fundraising event is a fun and unique way to raise donations or money and toys for children in need.

"We do this to pass out the bears at Christmas time, we go visit most of the senior homes in Weyburn, we give them out to kids at Christmas, actually we hand them out all year round, give them out whenever someone needs a teddy to cuddle," says Lorinczy.

The Salvation Army runs numerous Christmas programs and this event helps raise money to provide those programs to Weyburn residents.
