The WMBL playoffs started Tuesday night, with all four divisional semifinals starting. While the Weyburn Beavers took care of the Moose Jaw Miller Express 10-3, in Swift Current, the 57’s were hosting the Regina Red Sox.

The Red Sox held the lead for the majority of the game and were able to hold off Swift Current to pick up a 9-6 win to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Regina had home runs from Adam De La Cruz, Matt DeNeau and Brooks Stotler in the win.

Anthony Race picked up the win on the mound for Regina, while Jack Ferguson was tagged with the loss. Game two in the series is Wednesday in Swift Current.

In the West Division, the Medicine Hat Mavericks played host to Lethbridge to kick off their best-of-five series. The Bulls took an early 2-1 lead before the Mavericks scored four unanswered runs to pick up the victory.

David Salgueiro homered for Medicine Hat, while Jaxson Hoage drove in two runs. Both of Lethbridge’s runs came from solo home runs - Jesse Hilyard and Dustin Braun went yard in the second and fourth innings, respectively.

Medicine Hat’s Alex Dafoe had the win on the mound, while Tyler Shumpert had the save. Andrew Grieder was tagged with the loss for Lethbridge.

Game two is Wednesday in Medicine Hat.

The Okotoks Dawgs played host to the Edmonton Prospects in the other West semifinal. Edmonton scored four runs in the fifth inning, and never looked back as they held off the Dawgs to earn a 5-2 victory.

Anthony Cusati went yard for Edmonton, with AJ Nitzschke, Aidan Huggins, Tony Olson and Michael Gahan also helping bring in runs. Ryan Humeniuk had the lone RBI for Okotoks.

Edgar Barclay got the win for the Prospects, with Josh Sieglitz getting the save. Mason Swegarden was tagged with the loss for the Dawgs.

The series picks back up Wednesday night in Okotoks.
