The Yellow Grass Wheat Kings burned out the red light at home during a big 10-1 win over the Arcola/Kisbey Combines on Thursday night. The game marked the first meeting ever between the two clubs in the Big Six Hockey League.

Last season, the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings were formed less than two weeks after the Arcola/Kisbey Combines filed a one-year 'Leave-Of-Absence' from the league. Many players off the roster combined with locals from Yellow Grass to form the Wheat Kings. This past fall, the Combines rejoined the league with a newly-formed roster made up of local players from the Arcola/Kisbey region.

Yellow Grass opened the scoring early thanks to the leading scorer in the Big Six Hockey League. Devin Cobbold fired home his 12th goal of the season to give the home team an early 1-0 lead. The Wheat Kings would add goals from Dustin Chartrand (1) and Jesse Watson (1) to go up 3-0 in the first six minutes of the game.

A.J. Schlenker would be sprung in on a breakaway only a minute later, and back-handed home his 2nd goal of the year to get the Arcola/Kisbey Combines back into the game and making it 3-1.

However, with only a minute left in the first period, the Wheat Kings would put the game away early.

Yellow Grass scored three times in 41 seconds, thanks to Reid Paterson (1), Thomas Carleton (2), and Drew Fellner (1), to take a dominating 6-1 lead into the first intermission.

The Wheat Kings added another goal in the 2nd period, as Carleton (3) registered his second goal of the game to increase the lead to 7-1 after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd period, Corey Koski (10), Brendan Vertefeuille (4) added markers with Paterson (2) getting his second of the game during a late power play to round out the scoring in a convincing 10-1 win for Yellow Grass over the Combines.

Yellow Grass (6-3) moves back into a tie with the Redvers Rockets (6-3) for second overall in the Big Six Hockey League, while the Arcola/Kisbey Combines (0-7) continue to search for their first win of the season.
