The season is over for the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings. They fell 4-2 to the Wawota Flyers in game 2 of the best of three quarterfinal series.

The Flyers were first on the board when Rob West scored just after the halfway mark of the opening period. Riley Riddell assisted on the goal. The Wheat Kings answered back in short order, though. Troy Miller beat Guillaume Blouin a minute later, with Kyle Mryglod assisting.

The Flyers then looked to restore the lead in the second period. Justin Lamontagne would be the one to do it, with a power-play goal with 2:28 left in the frame. Kent Sauter and Riley Riddell picked up the assists on the goal.

Early in the third, it became a 3-1 game, when Colton MacPherson scored on Tanner Erickson. Linden Poirier assisted.

Yellow Grass replied with time to spare, with a goal from Dustin Chartrand. Devon Johnson and Kyle Crozier assisted on the goal, and the Wheat Kings began hunting for the game-tying marker.

It wouldn’t come, though, as the Flyers would score once more before the end of the period, with Ryan Taylor finding the twine. Taylor Ernst and Warren Hunter assisted.

The Flyers now advance to the semi-finals. They wait to see who their opponent will be.

There are two games in the big six tonight. The Carnduff Red Devils look to close out their series against the Carlyle Cougars. Meanwhile, the Bienfait Coalers will try to finish their series against the Mustangs in Midale. Both games start at 8:00 p.m.
