The Winter Olympics wraps up this weekend in PyeongChang, South Korea. Canada is currently third in the medals table behind Norway and Germany.

The Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang runs March 8th-18th.

Curt Minard originally from Weyburn has been officially called to represent Team Canada at the Paralympics in Snowboarding and he is of course excited and honoured.

"It's been an amazing journey. I had some things I really wanted to work on this year and some goals I wanted to accomplish. I set out with just that mindset of just going out there and having some fun and no expectations, it paid off."

It has been a strong year for Minard so far as he finished second overall in Boardercross and seventh overall in Bank Slalom which was combined for fourth overall.

"Feels amazing, such an accomplishment and just proud to be representing Canada."

Minard leaves for South Korea on March 2nd for a staging camp and heads to the Olympic village March 8th. This is not the first event he has had to travel to as he has been travelling around the world for training and competitions over the season including Chile, Brazil, Europe including Finland to the Arctic circle where he won bronze at an SBX World cup.

Minard was a board length away from winning Gold at Big White outside of Kelowna, B.C. but came away with silver.

The course length in PyeongChang is 700 metres with a drop of 162 metres over the course. Minard has yet to see the course but expects it to be steep fast and narrow.

"With that in mind then depending on the conditions of the snow, it can get pretty freezing overnight which in turn makes the course a little bit faster."

Minard said he has been glued to the Winter Olympics currently going on.

"I live for the Olympics ever since I was a young boy. I just love the winter Olympics."

"We're having such an amazing game right now, we're third in the medals standing. That just proves to the calibre of athletes and the vast majority of sports we are really good at. Super proud of all those people who are over there representing our country and I am extremely honoured to have the opportunity to be going there myself, and to make my family and friends and country proud."

Minard is thankful for the support of everyone back home.

We will keep you updated on Minard's progress at the 2018 Winter Paralympic Games which is less than two weeks away.
