A tough night for the Weyburn Red Wings started poorly and never got any better as they fell 7–2 on Friday night to the visiting Notre Dame Hounds.

Jarrett Penner scored just 13 seconds into the game and the Hounds never looked back. They would another one soon after and led 2–0 just 1:30 into the contest. Weyburn had some chances, but the difference was Notre Dame capitalized on theirs and took a commanding 4–0 lead into the locker room after 20 minutes.

A much better showing in the second period had the Wings looking and feeling good. Dawson McKenzie sniped home his 13th of the season giving him goals in back-to-back games and that cut the lead to 4–1. Shortly after, Sean Olson fired one past Matt Luckas off the rush and gave the Wings some hope midway through the middle period.

After five or six minutes of pure domination by the Wings, the Hounds would restore their three-goal lead courtesy of Cole Golden. The fifth Hounds goal seem to sink the Red Wings who never showed the same fire they had early in the second period.

If the Wings could find a way to bottle up what they had in those few minutes in the middle frame, and find a way to play like that night in and night out, they could make some real noise down the stretch. Much easier said then done of course.

Notre Dame added two more before the final buzzer and handed the Wings their seventh straight defeat.

Weyburn still sits just one point out of the final playoff spot after Melville was throttled 11–4 by the Yorkton Terriers. The Wings have a chance to snap their skid again tomorrow night when they make the trip down Highway 39 and visit the Estevan Bruins.

Game time is 7:30, and you can hear it live on BIG 106, with the pre-game show starting at 7:20.
