It was a strong showing for athletes from Weyburn Comprehensive School, and the surrounding areas, as they competed in the Weyburn Invitational Track Meet on the weekend. WCS had a fantastic day, with athletes picking up a total of 43 top 3 finishes and many more top five and ten finishes.

Looking just at the first place finishes, Jaydon Cook led the way. Competing in the Bantam Boy category, he recorded first in the 100m and 200m, as well as the long jump. Jyler Goebel also finishing first in the Bantam Boys 3000m.

Abby Hayward representing the Bantam Girls as well, with a first-place finish in the 400m. Denae King picked up two first-place finishes in field events. She took first in the shot put and the discus.

As for the midget boys, Alex Lund picking up where his brothers before him left off. He was first in the shot put and discus.

The Midget Girls with some strong finishes as well. Soraya Blunt took the top spot in the shot put, while Kiera Pittman was first in the 3000m.

Brett Bowler had a strong showing at the Moose Jaw meet earlier this month, and he continued his performance this weekend. He was first in the 400m.

Paul Dionne is a multi-sport athlete, and he can dominate on the track as well. He took first in the Senior Boys triple jump and was just off top spot in the long jump. Axel Lund kept pace with his younger brother, also taking first in the shot put and the discus.

The athletes from Weyburn and the surrounding areas will be competing in the regionals meet at WCS this Wednesday. From there, they will advance to districts in Estevan and the provincials.
