The Wawota Flyers earned the first win of their best-of-five Big Six Hockey league semi final series with the Redvers Rockets Wednesday night, as they earned a 4-3 road win. The Flyers have now won four straight games in the postseason.

The Rockets were the first to score in the game, though, as Kelsey Kenler was set up by Todd Gervais at the 7:11 mark of the first period. Wawota would respond in the second, kicking off a flurry of goals just before the halfway mark of the game.

Kayle Swanson scored with 12:04 left in the second, with Kevin Lincoln and Warren Hunter earning the assists, tying the game up. Redvers would reply just 30 seconds later, as Remi Lamotte got the puck past Guillaume Blouin, with Braden Liboiron assisting. Only 16 seconds later, the Flyers would tie it up again, as Devin Stewart scored on Thomas Bauche, with Taylor Ernst earning the helper.

The Flyers took the momentum from the game tying goal into the start of the third period, as Ernst scored just 1:45 into the stanza. Stewart and Dylan Lamontagne assisted on the goal. The lead was extended with seven minutes off the clock, as Kent Sauter was set up by Rob West.

The Rockets replied with one more goal in the dying minutes of the game, but they couldn’t get enough momentum after the goal from Craig Gaudet to score the game tying goal.

The two teams will now meet in Wawota for game two of the semi-final series Tuesday. The first game of the semi-final between Bienfait and Yellow Grass will start Friday night in Bienfait.
