It wasn’t the outcome Weyburn wanted, but it’s the fireworks at the end of the game that everyone will remember. Four tilts, including a goalie fight, went down in the final seconds of the third period in the Wings 6-3 loss to Flin Flon.

Multiple suspensions will be forthcoming in the next 24 hours to Tristan Petrie, Jevon Schwean, Riley Lamb and Ty Brown. All came out on the better side of the fisticuffs, much to the excitement of the home crowd. The fans were less excited about the result of the actual game, however.

A great start by the Wings had them up 1–0 just 38 seconds in. Cade Kowalski sparked the team with a shot from the slot that beat Pierce Diamond. It’s just the third time this year in 10 games the Wings have scored first.

Carson Scheschuk made it a two-goal lead with his third snipe of the season and after 20 minutes it was the Red Wings who held a 2–0 lead. The middle period wasn’t as kind to the red and white, with the Bombers potting four unanswered.

Crystopher Collin, Daylan Marchi (twice) and Nate Hooper all scored for the Bombers. Weyburn was forced to kill of five minor penalties in the period.

With the lead stretched to 5–2, Sven Schefer gave the Red Wings some life with his first career SJHL goal. The assist went to fellow rookie Justin Plett and it got the crowd back into the game. A late powerplay for the Wings gave them some hope but it wasn’t meant to be on this night.

A third straight loss for the Wings probably led to some frustrations boiling over in the final minute. Lamb came out of his crease and Pierce Diamond answered the challenge for Flin Flon. The building was electric as multiple scraps broke out with no time left on the clock.

The Red Wings will have a couple days to recover and ice their knuckles before they head down to Wilcox on Tuesday for a meeting with the Notre Dame Hounds. Their record falls to 5–4–1 on the year.
