Kicking off the new year on the hardcourt, the Weyburn Comprehensive Eagles finished with a record of 3–1 over the weekend and a 3rd place finish at the 58th Annual Moose Jaw Senior Boys Invitational Tournament.

Weyburn went undefeated in Pool 'A', picking up a pair of victories to start the weekend. They edged out Moose Jaw Vanier 70–69 on Thursday and on Friday dismantled North Battleford 86–41.

A top spot in their pool set up a semifinal date with Moose Jaw Central on Saturday afternoon. A hard fought game by two undefeated teams ended with an 87–64 loss for the Eagles.

From there they moved on to the bronze medal game and a rematch with Vanier. Like in the earlier in the weekend, it would be the Eagles coming away with the victory, this time by a score of 86–80 to claim third place. Owen Hiltz led the way with 21 points, while Jacob Butz and Blake Anderson chipped in with double-digit scoring each to wrap up the weekend.

Senior boys head coach Lars Guenther said it was a "good weekend and their hard work will help with provincial seeding down the road."

The Eagles will resume regular season play this week when they face Regina's Winston Knoll on January 9.
