The Saskatchewan Men’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur golf tournaments are underway at Dakota Dunes Golf Club in Saskatoon this week.

This year the southeast is well-represented in the tournament, which began Tuesday, and wraps up Thursday.

After the first 18 holes of the week, the leader of the Amateur was David Stewart of Saskatoon, who shot a 4-under 68. Weyburn’s Rick Hallberg was four strokes back, scoring even-par for the day.

A familiar name in Weyburn, Coltyn Sanderson, was 4-over after the first round. The former captain of the Weyburn Red Wings is tied for 39th heading into Wednesday’s play.

Also tied for 39th is Carson Harcourt from Kipling.

Joel Miller, who is from Avonlea, had a rough go on the first day of play and is well back after shooting a 17-over.
