The SJHL quarterfinals resumed Monday night with a pair of games. The Estevan Bruins were in Humboldt to take on the Broncos for game three of their best-of-seven series which was tied 1-1. Meanwhile, the Kindersley Klippers were hoping home ice would help them overcome a 2-0 deficit in their series with the Melfort Mustangs.

In the first playoff game played in Humboldt since the crash of April 6th, the Broncos faithful were fired up and looking for their team to come out of the gates strong. The Broncos did just that, as they doubled up the Bruins 6-3.

The first period was a little more back and forth, with Estevan taking the lead 2:51 in thanks to a power-play goal from Devan Harrison. It wouldn’t take long for the Broncos to reply.

Josh Patrician scored his second of the postseason with the man advantage just under five minutes later. Then, just after the halfway mark of the opening frame, Mitch Zambon scored for the Broncos to make it 2-1.

The Bruins weren’t done, though. TJ Irey scored his first of the playoffs before the first period was over, making it a 2-2 game. After the first intermission, though, it would be all Broncos.

Jake Heerspink did score for the Bruins to give them the lead early in the middle period, but then Humboldt took over the game, starting with a goal from Michael Clarke. His marker at 5:01 of the second was quickly followed up by a goal from Bryson Cecconi to give the Broncos the lead.

Then, Owen Guenter expanded the lead to two goals with just 45 seconds left on the clock in the second as he scored his second of the playoffs.

In the third period, Logan Foster put the game out of reach with his first goal of the postseason, giving the Broncos their 6-3 win.

With the Broncos leading the best-of-seven series 2-1, game four is Tuesday night in Humboldt.

The Kindersley Klippers found themselves on home ice, down 2-0 in their series with the Melfort Mustangs. Wanting to avoid dropping to 3-0, the Klippers threw everything they had at the Mustangs but came up just short, falling 4-3, giving Melfort the stranglehold 3-0 lead in the series.

Kindersley took the initial lead in the game as Austin Nault scored his first goal of the playoffs on the power play just 4:50 into the game. Then, Tyler Traptow made it 2-0 Kindersley with a power-play goal 90 seconds later.

The Mustangs would rally back, as George King scored his second of the playoffs, then Jake Hobson tied the game up with just over six minutes left in the first period.

The Klippers would respond with a goal to take the lead in the second period. Ty Enns would find the back of the net at the 13:56 mark. The lead wouldn’t last long as Justin Ball scored just 19 seconds later, restoring the tie to 3-3.

In the third period, Ball would get his second goal of the night to make it 4-3 just three and a half minutes in. The goal from the most prolific scorer during the regular season would hold to be the game-winner, as the Klippers fell 4-3.

Game four of the series will be played Tuesday night in Kindersley, with the Klippers now on the brink of elimination.

The other two quarterfinal series will resume Tuesday night as well. The Nipawin Hawks are in Yorkton to face the Terriers. The series is tied 1-1. Meanwhile, the Battlefords North Stars, who lead the Flin Flon Bombers 2-0, face the daunting task of picking up two wins at the Whitney Forum in Flin Flon when the series resumes.
