The SJHL announced the players of the week on Monday.

To the surprise of pretty much no one, the goaltender of the week was Declan Hobbs. The Nipawin Hawks netminder played strong in goal over two games against the Humboldt Broncos. He faced 89 shots in those games and allowed just one goal.

The runner-up for the award was Justen Close from Kindersley.

The rookie of the week is Ryan Butler from the Melville Millionaires. The Maple Ridge, BC native picked up three points in two games against the Estevan Bruins, including two goals. He is tied for the league lead in rookie scoring.

George Cathers from Estevan was the runner-up.

Johnny Witzke picked up where he left off last season as he was named the defenseman of the week. The blueliner chipped in five points, including two goals and two assists Saturday against the Melville Millionaires.

The runner-up was Calvon Boots from the Flin Flon Bombers.

With seven points in two games, Brandson Hein was named the SJHL’s player of the week. He had a hat trick in the season opener, then added four assists the next night. Hein is in his second year with the Bombers.

The runner-up was Zach Anderson from the Melfort Mustangs.
