The Yellow Grass Communiplex is expecting one of the biggest crowds of the season tonight, as the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings of the Big Six Hockey League play host to the Milestone Flyers of the Qu’Appelle Valley Hockey League for game one of their best-of-three provincial series.

The Wheat Kings enter the game in first place in the Big Six, with a record of 14-3, and undefeated on home ice. The Wheat Kings also have one of the most potent offences in the league, with 120 goals for in 17 games, while allowing 50.

Offensively, the Wheat Kings are led by former Weyburn Red Wing Shelby Gray, who has 18 goals in 16 games. He is tied for the team lead in points with Devin Cobbold with 26 points on the season. The Wheat Kings also have the top goaltender in the league, Tanner Erickson. Erickson has posted a 2.06 GAA so far this year and has won all nine games he has played.

As for the Flyers, they are currently sitting in third place in the QVHL with a record of 13-5. They have scored 123 goals so far this season while allowing just 63 goals, the second lowest in the league.

Upfront, they are led by Logan Gorsalitz. In his ninth year with the Flyers, the forward has 21 goals in 18 games, and a total of 29 points. He is followed by Morgan Gallais, who has picked up 26 points in 15 games this year. Weyburn’s Riley Ross has backstopped Milestone for the majority of the games this season. His GAA of 3.49 is third best in the league this season.

The game starts at 8:00 p.m. in Yellow Grass. Game two of the series will be Monday in Milestone. If necessary, game three will go back in Yellow Grass.
