The runs were scored when they mattered the most for Team Saskatchewan at the Under-15 National Baseball Championships in Summerside, P.E.I this morning. They beat Nova Scotia 13-6 in extra innings.

Nova Scotia jumped out to an early lead when they scored two runs in the first inning. They added another run in the third inning before Saskatchewan tied it up at three in the top of the fourth.

Nova Scotia would take the lead again in the bottom of the fourth before Saskatchewan tied it up again with a single in the sixth inning. Neither team would score in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, Saskatchewan found their groove. Tournament rules place runners on first and second in the extra frame, and Saskatchewan brought in those two base runners to take a 6-4 lead, and would then add seven more before the end of the inning, giving them a 13-4 lead. Weyburn’s Rhett Krafchuk scored two of the runs.

Nova Scotia would score two runs in the bottom of the frame but was unable to close the gap, giving Saskatchewan the win.

With a 2-0 record, Saskatchewan now gets ready to face Alberta this afternoon. The game starts at 12:30 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
