A tough road game resulted in a fourth straight loss for the Weyburn Red Wings. A quick start wasn’t enough as the Notre Dame Hounds took the game by a score of 4–2.

Dealing with suspensions and injuries forced the Wings to play with just five defenceman in the game. Fatigue looked to set in by the middle of the third period, as the Hounds were able to pick up their fifth win in six games.

Putting their league-best powerplay to work early, Ben Hiltz snapped a four game goal drought after a beautiful pass from Cade Kowalski set him up backdoor. The Red Wings would add to their lead before the halfway point of the opening period.

Forward Connor Pyne has looked great in his recent return to the lineup. He was rewarded with his second the season with a nice move before ripping it past Andrew Henderson. That would be all the scoring the Wings could muster up.

Notre Dame would get one back before the end of the first when Marshall Wilton potted his fourth of the year. Rookie Cody Levesque was making his third start of the campaign after the suspension to Riley Lamb. He was sharp in the opening 20 minutes, making a couple tough stops.

The Hounds would slowly start to take the game over in the second frame and were outshooting the red and white 27–13 through two periods. Nunavut-native Qaritaq Kusugak evened up the contest at two with a goal just past the midway point of the period.

Defenceman Charles Martin would score the game-winner at the 4:46 mark of the third period. He had a few chances earlier in the game and rang one off the crossbar in the second period. Weyburn tried to rally late and had a few chances around the goal, but Henderson was able to shut the door after his shaky start.

Tanner Tarbell added an empty-netter with 32 seconds left to put the game out of reach. A gutsy effort by the Wings on the road came up just short on this occasion.

Shifting their focus to Nipawin on Friday night, the Wings will have another chance to get back in the win column at the friendly confines of Crescent Point Place. The Hawks will be in town on Friday, before the Melfort Mustangs visit on Saturday.

The loss drops the Red Wings to 5–5–1 and they now sit in 2nd place in the Viterra Division.
