It will be a busy weekend on the hardwood, as the SHSAA basketball regionals take over gyms across the province.

There will be a total of 38 tournaments being played, with the top teams from the tournaments advancing to Hoopla, the annual tournament to crown the provincial champions in each of the classifications. This year, Hoopla is being played in Saskatoon.

Weyburn Comprehensive School will be one of the hosts for a tournament, with a 4A boys regional being played here. The Eagles will be up against teams from Nipawin, Humboldt, and Moose Jaw Vanier. The top team from the tournament will advance to Hoopla.

Wilcox is hosting another 4A boys tournament at Notre Dame. Teams there will include La Ronge Churchill, Regina Johnson and Moose Jaw Peacock.

The southeast is also represented in the 3A tournaments, with Oxbow playing at Legacy Christian Academy in Saskatoon. They will be up against Delisle, the host school and Watrous.

In the 1A boys competition, Coronach is hosting Stoughton, Thunderchild and Rocanville.

The Weyburn Eagles senior girls’ team is in the 5A classification, and they are making the trek to Prince Albert for their regional. They will be up against Prince Albert Carlton, Prince Albert St. Mary, Yorkton and Swift Current. The top two teams from the 5A tournament advance to Hoopla, where they will take on the winners of the Regina and Saskatoon city championships.

Oxbow will also be represented in the 3A girls tournament being played at Regina Christian School. They will be competing for a spot in the provincial championships against PACI, Unity and the host team.

The 1A classification has strong representation from the southeast. In St. Brieux, Wilkie, Gladmar, Kinistino and the host team will be competing for a spot.

Coronach heads to Cupar, where they will be up against Regina Laval, Birch Hills and Southey.

Langham will host Fillmore, LCBI and Southey.
