The Weyburn Red Wings will look to make it a perfect season against the La Ronge Ice Wolves tonight when the puck drops at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. The Wings have won the previous three engagements between the two teams, outscoring the Ice Wolves 16-4. The most recent was an 8-2 win over La Ronge on October 25th. The Wings also enter the game in second place in the Viterra Division, a point back of the Estevan Bruins.

The Wings have made some moves since that game, as have the Ice Wolves. La Ronge has also proven they aren’t a pushover. They have picked up wins over Flin Flon, and Humboldt in recent weeks. They have also forced the Estevan Bruins into a shootout. While they may be mired in a seven-game losing streak, they are not a team to be easily discounted, especially thanks to the play of goaltenders Jordan Frey and Merek Pipes.

The Red Wings have a lot of offensive power, though. This was displayed Wednesday night, when they beat Flin Flon 7-2, thanks in part to a hat-trick from Erik Olson (13-13-26). The Wings lineup will be without some of its firepower tonight, though, and for the foreseeable future. Leading scorer Ben Hiltz (12-16-28) is now off to the selection camp for Canada West for the World Junior A Challenge. Even without him in the line-up, the young guns in the lineup like Cade Kowalski (6-21-27) and Jordan Kazymyra (11-8-19), as well as the strong veterans like Ty Brown (7-7-14), and Mike Eskra (7-14-21) are more than capable of contributing.

The puck drops on tonight’s game at 7:30 p.m. You can catch all the action on Red Wing Radio, K106, starting with the pregame show at 7:20 p.m.
