The Weyburn Red Wings are off to Kindersley today, as they begin a three night, three-game road trip in west-central Saskatchewan. The Wings will play again in Kindersley tomorrow and then head to the Battlefords on Saturday. Weyburn will be looking to strengthen their lead over the Estevan Bruins for first in the Viterra Division.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. Weyburn played the Klippers at the SJHL Showcase in September, with Kindersley picking up a 5-3 win. Since that game, the two teams went on different trajectories.

The Red Wings would go until the end of October before losing another game. Their nine-game winning streak was the longest of the year and included wins over some of the top teams in the league. Kindersley won six games in October and lost three. Despite the strong play in the month, they are occupying the last place in the Olympic Buildings Division, seven points back of first place Humboldt.

The leading scorer for Weyburn is Ben Hiltz, who 23 points on the year. Behind him is defenseman Erik Olson with 19, and rookie Cade Kowalski with 17. In net, the play of Arik Weersink and Carter Phair has been strong as well, with both goalies in the top 10 of many of the league leaders.

Kindersley has not had as much in the way of offensive output as the Red Wings, but the point totals are spread out. Tanner Thompson leads the team with 12 points, with Curtis Peck and Jordan Funk right behind him with 11.

The Klippers are to be underestimated, though. They have picked up wins over the Melfort Mustangs and the Battlefords North Stars, as well as the Wings so far this season, showing they can beat the top teams in the league on any given night.

The game from the West Central Events Centre in Kindersley will be broadcast live on Red Wing Radio K106, starting with the pregame show at 7:20 p.m.
