The Weyburn Red Wings will be playing with their season on the line when they take the ice tonight. The Melville Millionaires have a 1-0 lead in the best of three wild card series, with game two set for this evening at the Horizon Credit Union Centre.

Game one was a 3-2 overtime win for the Millionaires. The game wasn’t without controversy, though, as many believed a pick play used by the Millionaires on the game-winning goal should have resulted in a minor penalty against the Mills. However, Red Wings head coach Wes Rudy explained the team needs to forget what happened, and get focused on the task at hand.

“Whether its best of three, best of five or best of seven, you want wins. You want to put the other team behind the 8-ball, and that’s where we sit right now,” Rudy explained. “I would expect our guys to come hard in Melville with their season on the line, and play that way.”

The Red Wings have had mixed success in Melville’s Horizon Credit Union Centre this season. Of the four games played there, the Wings won two of them, and the two losses came in overtime.

Special teams will more than likely be another strong factor in the game. The Red Wings have dominated the Millionaires on the power play this season, including Sunday’s game, with 10 power play goals in 35 opportunities. The Millionaires, on the other hand, have appeared anemic with the man advantage against Weyburn, scoring just three power-play goals in 25 chances.
