In a game that featured two teams hungry for a win, the two points up for grabs wouldn't be decided until the dying seconds of the game. On the powerplay and with 14 seconds to go, Carson Scheschuk's shot from the point found its way to the back of the net to give the Red Wings the only goal of the hockey game and a 1–0 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

Just one goal and three penalties were called all night during a game that flew by. The teams traded some good chances, but both goalies were sharp and both sides were held scoreless for 59:46. Riley Lamb made 33 saves for the shutout — his third of the season — while La Ronge's Daniel Davidson stopped 30 of 31, including a couple great saves to keep the game tied.

The Wings were outshot through 40 minutes, but found an extra gear when it mattered most. They controlled the play for most of the third period and some good work in the offensive zone led to Justin Plett drawing a penalty with 53 seconds left in the third period. Ice Wolf fans didn't agree with the call that ended up sinking the home side's ship in a game that seemed destined for overtime.

Eric Soar picked up the lone assist on the goal for his first point as a Red Wing and also his first win in a red and white sweater. Soar and Scheschuk have emerged as a great pairing for Weyburn and will probbaly log some serious minutes going forward. Up front, Cade Kowalski, Ty Brown, Drew Anderson, Sean Olson and Ben Hiltz all looked dangerous and generated a number of scoring chances.

It was a win the Red Wings desperately needed. They were beaten badly in the two previous games on the roadie, and had won just once in the last six games. It's a confidence booster and a momentum builder that gives them two points to surpass Melville in the Viterra division standings.

Next up for the Wings is a fourth and final game up north in Nipawin on Saturday night. Weyburn is 0–2 against the Hawks this season and, like most teams in the league, has had trouble scoring against the tough goaltending tandem of Declan Hobbs and Patrick Pugliese.
