Another year of Red Wings hockey has come and gone, and although it wasn't the end everyone had hoped for, there was still a lot to be celebrated this season.

On Thursday night, the Weyburn Red Wings held their annual awards banquet to wrap up the year that was. Goodbyes were said, speeches were made and hardware was handed out to some deserving recipients.

Gentlemenly Conduct Award: Justin Plett
Community Service Award: Garrett Szeremley
Best Defenceman: Eric Soar
Best Forward: Sean Olson
Most Improved Player: Carsen Robertson
Best Defensive Forward: Sean Olson
Unsung Hero: Tristan Petrie
Red Wing Displaying Dedication: Burke Johnstone
Rookie of the Year: Jacob Piller
Most Valuable Player: Sean Olson
Inspirational Red Wings Award: Rhett Frey
Top Scorer: Ben Hiltz
Fan Favourite Player: Ty Brown
Player's Choice Favourite Player: Cody Levesque

Also handed out was a surprise award. Contiki Tours and CAA Saskatchewan picked one player in the whole league who demonstrated excellence in the community as well as on the ice. This player had to go above and beyond what is asked of them.

The selected player received a 10-day all expenses paid trip to Europe for a once in a lifetime vacation. Hotels, flights, tours, everything paid for. Garrett Szeremley was the recipient for all his hard work in Weyburn over the past year.

Seven Red Wings also saw their junior hockey careers end and they were honoured and recognized as well last night. Ty Brown, Sean Olson, Burke Johnstone, Eric Soar, Tristan Petrie, Zac Gladu and Drew Anderson will move on with their hockey careers.
