A tough couple of minutes in the second period for the Wawota Flyers ended up being the difference in a 4-2 loss to the visiting Raymore Rockets in Game One of their Provincial 'C' series.

In a two-game, total-point series, all it takes is a couple of minutes to change the dynamic and the Flyers found that out the hard way on Sunday night in front of a packed crowd at the Wawota Community Forum.

Wawota started out on the right foot taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to Logan Dew scoring for the Flyers with 7:23 left in the first.

Raymore shook off the bus legs in the middle frame however, with Braden Bentz beating Guillaume Blouin blocker-side to tie the game at 1-1. That remained the score until the final two minutes of the period when everything went off the rails for the Flyers.

Tyrell Shulko buried his own rebound with 2:13 left in the period to give the Rockets their first lead of the night at 2-1. On the next shift, Raymore would strike twice more as Michael Jordan and Tanner Linnen beat Blouin to suddenly make it 4-1 for the Rockets after two periods.

The final period didn't yield as many offensive opportunities for either team, but Wawota was able to give themselves a small boost at the end of the game when Hunter Smith scored a crucial goal to make the final score 4-2 heading back to Raymore.

Game Two is next Saturday, February 17th in Raymore, with Wawota needing to win by at least three goals to advance to the next round of provincials.
