The Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings closed the gap with the Estevan Midget Bruins for second in the SSMHL Wednesday night. The Wings shutout the visiting Bruins 3-0 at Crescent Point Place. With the win, the two teams are now tied in the standings, with Weyburn holding three games in hand. The Wings are also two points back of the first place Yorkton Midget Terriers with a game in hand.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the first period, but the Wings would come out firing in the second to take the lead. It started with Todd Johnson’s 13th of the year at the 6:28 mark, assisted by Cooper Kopec.

Getting a power play just under two minutes later, the Wings doubled up their score. Matthew Anderson scored his 21st of the campaign with the man advantage, with Kyler Douglas and Braden Birnie getting the assists.

Meanwhile, in the Weyburn zone, Jaxon Robertson stopped every shot he faced to earn the shutout in goal.

In the third period, Kyler Douglas scored an insurance goal with 4:28 left on the clock. Johnson and Gavin Doud assisted.

The Midget Wings play host to the Swift Current Midget Broncos Friday night, before playing in Moose Jaw against the Midget Warriors Saturday, and a return matchup in Estevan on Sunday to complete a five-game, seven-day stretch.
