With a pair of wins on the weekend, the Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings kept pace in the standings of the SAAHL, improving to 13-11-3-1 on the season. Weyburn recorded victories over Moose Jaw and Yorkton, both games played at Crescent Point Place.

In the game Saturday, the Wings topped Moose Jaw 3-1.

The Warriors were the first on the board, when Jordan Johnson scored an unassisted goal 5:29 into the opening frame. It would be all the Warriors would get in the way of scoring.

The Wings tied the game up just over two minutes later when Rylan Neiszner found the back of the net. He was assisted on the goal by Sam Chittenden and Parker Douglas. The Wings would then take the lead before the period was over.

Hudson Hall scored with 1:32 left on the clock. The goal was assisted by Brogan Schmeltzer.

In the second period, it was the goaltenders’ time to shine, in particular at the Moose Jaw End. Warriors netminder Austin Bourdeau turned aside all 14 shots he faced in the period. Meanwhile, Matt Dutchak faced just five shots in the period. In fact, the Warriors only testing Dutchak 16 times all game.

In the third period, the Wings would add an insurance goal.

Tanner Rowland scored on the power play with three minutes remaining in regulation. Douglas and Schmeltzer both assisted on the tally.

Sunday, the Wings welcomes the Yorkton Terriers to Crescent Point Place. Weyburn would again get the victory, beating the visitors 5-3.

This time, it was the Wings who were first on the board, as Mitchell McDonald scored with 11:12 to go in the first period. Baron Lawrence and Sawyer Kopec assisted on the goal.

The Terriers would tie things up 39 seconds later. Dru Minke scored a power play goal, and the teams were even 1-1.

Again, though, Hudson Hall would score late in the first period, giving the Wings a 2-1 lead as the teams headed to the locker room.

In the second period, Yorkton came out firing, and would score another power play goal 6:39 into the frame, as Clay Seeva got the puck past Kobe Kmita.

The deadlock wouldn’t survive the period. Sam Chittenden scored with 57 seconds left in the second to push Weyburn up 3-2. Neiszner and Albert Kim were credited with the assists.

In the third period, Gavin Doud extended the lead to two goals when he scored a power play marker for Weyburn. Neiszner and Douglas picked up the assists on the goal.

Yorkton would score once more to close the gap to just one, when Karson Krasowski beat Kmita with 3:15 left.

Cooper Kopec would then score an insurance marker for the Wings with 2:31 remaining. The assists were credited to Kim and Lawrence.

The Wings are now off until Saturday. They will return to action at Crescent Point Place, hosting the Lumsden/Bethune Lions.
