A tough game for the Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings Friday night. They fell 2-1 to the Regina Rangers. With the loss, the Wings will finish third in the SSMHL standings.

This means an opening-round playoff series against either the Notre Dame Argos, Regina Vics, or Regina Capitals, depending on how the final weekend of the regular season shapes up. The Argos currently sit in sixth with 37 points, but it will depend on how all three teams do in their final game of the season.

The Rangers were the first on the board in the game Friday night. Blake Duquette got the puck past Wings netminder Jaxon Robertson five minutes into the second period. The Wings didn’t take long to respond, though.

Thomas Goranson scored on the power play three minutes later, with the assists going to Kyler Douglas and Braden Birnie. For Goranson, it was the fourth goal of the season, second coming on the power play.

Both teams looked for the go-ahead goal throughout the rest of the second period, and the majority of the third. It would be the Rangers breaking the deadlock, though. With just 1:31 left on the clock, Noah Kuntz scored, giving the Rangers the victory.

The Wings will now prepare to close out their regular season Saturday afternoon. They host the Regina Vics at Crescent Point Place. The puck drops on the game at 12:30 p.m.
