The Midget AA John Hulbert Construction Wings were looking to pick up some crucial points as the regular season heads into the final stretch when they travelled up Highway 39 to take on the Notre Dame Hounds Tuesday night. The Hounds had other things in mind and held off the Wings to pick up an 8-6 win in a wild affair at the Duncan McNeill Arena.

The two teams went back and forth on the scoreboard, starting right out of the gate.

Brogan Schmeltzer opened the scoring just 1:08 into the game with an unassisted goal, giving Weyburn a 1-0 lead.

The Hounds didn’t wait long to tie things up, as Andrew Karam scored just 92 seconds later, making it a 1-1 game.

Before the first period was over, Weyburn would regain the lead.

Hudson Hall scored what would be his first of the game with 5:37 left on the clock. He was assisted on the goal by Kale Williamson.

In the second period, the Hounds came roaring back with three quick goals.

Jaxon Krupa, Aedan Gunn and Keegan Willier-Ferguson all scored within two minutes to push the Hounds out to a 4-2 lead over the Wings.

Weyburn responded with another goal from Hall, this time on the power play, at the 5:10 mark of the period. Schmeltzer and Gavin Doud were credited with the assists on the play for the Wings.

Willier-Ferguson would restore the lead to two goals just before the halfway mark of the period, then the Hounds would expand the lead before the second period was over, as Gunn scored his second of the night.

The Wings pushed to come back in the third.

It started with an unassisted goal by Albert Kim just 13 seconds into the final frame. Then, Kim added a second goal at the 4:54 mark of the period, assisted by Axel Lund and Sawyer Kopec.

Weyburn would then tie the game up as Sam Chittenden added an unassisted marker with 6:33 remaining in the period.

The Hounds wouldn’t give up, though,

Just 50 seconds after the Wings evened the game up at 6-6, Krupa scored his second of the night. He would then finish off the bid for the hat trick with 56 remaining, giving the Hounds the 8-6 win.

The Midget AA Wings will now prepare for the Regina Capitals, who are in town tonight. The game starts at Crescent Point Place at 8:15 p.m.
