The Midget AA Aaron Well Servicing Gold Wings kept their spot atop the standings in the SaskFHL with a 2-1 road win over the Swift Current Broncos Saturday. The win has the Gold Wings up by a point on the Regina rebels for first place.

The low-scoring affair Saturday saw the Southeast team jump out to a lead with 13:18 remaining in the first period. Haley Labbie scored the goal, putting the puck past Swift Current netminder Allison Wall. The assists went to Kiera Pittman and Alyssa Ohrt.

The home side would tie things up before the end of the period. The only blemish on the night for Kara Zelyck came courtesy Paris Appel, who scored an unassisted goal with 5:50 left in the first period.

The Gold Wings would regain the lead early in the second period. Kendra Kotylak scored just 40 seconds into the period. Taylor Rooney assisted on the goal.

From there, it became a goaltending battle. Zelyck and Wall stopped all other shots they faced on the night, and the Gold Wings skated to the victory.

The last game before the Christmas break for the Gold Wings will come Tuesday night. They travel to Regina to take on the Rebels in a game to determine who will be in first place heading into the break.
