Thanks to a four-goal performance by Rhett Labbie, and three more courtesy the stick of Matthew Anderson, the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings Junior C squad remains undefeated on the season. The seven goals from the two would power the team to a 9-2 win over the Lumsden Jax Saturday night, extending the season-opening winning streak for the Wheat Kings to seven games.

The Jax opened the scoring in the first period, and it would be the only lead they would hold all game. Taylor Onishenko scored on Devon Pompu before the first period was five minutes old. The goal seemed to spark something in the Wheat Kings, who would proceed to put score almost at will for the rest of the game.

Labbie scored his first of the night just over five minutes later. The goal was assisted by Ty Stadnick and William Winkler, who would both finish the game off with three assists each.

Before the first period was over, it was a 2-1 game for the Wheat Kings, as Labbie scored his second of the game. The assists on the goal went to Winkler and Trey Culbert.

The Wheat Kings weren’t finished.

They started out the second period with a goal from Anderson, assisted by Winkler, making it a 3-1 game. Just 19 seconds after the goal from Anderson, Labbie finished off the hat trick. Culbert assisted the tally.

Kolin Piwarski would make it a 5-1 game just before the halfway mark of the second period. Stadnick would get the assist on the goal.

The outpouring of offense from the Wheat Kings would wrap up with a goal from Anderson, his second, with 4:33 remaining in the second period. The power play marker was assisted by Austin Gerle and Jaxon Guest.

The Jax would finally respond with 53 left in the second. Onishenko scored his second of the game to make if 6-1 Yellow Grass.

The home team would come out firing as the third period started. Labbie added his fourth of the game just 3:32 into the third. Culbert and Connor Lafoy assisted on the goal.

Anderson would finish off the hat trick with a short handed goal with 13:59 left in the period. Gerle and Piwarski were credited with the helpers on the late game tally.

Lafoy would then score a goal of his own on the power play with just 2:19 remaining on the clock. Stadnick assisted on the goal.

The Wheat Kings are now 7-0 on the season in the QVHL Junior C circuit. They will look to make it eight in a row Monday night, as they head to Lumsden for a rematch with the Jax.
