With the third weekend left at the Estevan Motor Speedway in the books, August long weekend saw a full docket of action with the usual Slingshot, Hobby Stock, A Modified races, along with the rare addition of the Dirt Late Models to the card. Despite drawing racers from as far as Alberta, Manitoba, and Montana besides the usual North Dakota and Southeast Saskatchewan, all Estevan and area racers took the checkered flag on the final lap.

Starting off with the young guns in the Slingshot races, Ryder Raynard worked his way up from the third place spot at the beginning of the feature race before holding that lead and cruising to another victory on the year for the youngster.

The second feature of the night, the Hobby Stocks, was again another rough race for many of the racers involved. Before the first of the 20 laps could be completed, 3 separate caution flags flew and racers were forced to circle the track and line up once again. The race didn't really get going until 5 laps in, but even then the yellow flag continued to fly until 6 of the 21 racers had left the field for the night. North Dakota's Zach Lutz managed to work his way up from the sixth place spot through the caution-filled beginning of the race and continued to hold that lead for the majority of the race. Right behind him in the 7 spot coming into the race was Lampman's Landon Runge who stuck with Luntz on his entire climb through the racers, and the two stayed tight until the 7th lap.

"Sometimes cautions help and sometimes they don't, when I wasn't getting across I was getting bumped back a little bit," says Runge after taking first place in the Hobby Stock feature after slingshotting his way past Luntz with just over a quarter of the race left to take home the checkered flag. "Once I finally got up there, it seemed to work out."

The Street Stocks were the next to hit the track, and with nearly half as many racers it got off to a bit of a quicker start than the race before. Weyburn's Lindsay Wagner started at the front of the pack, but again a few cautions throughout the race knocked her out of the running and opened up the field to three cars that fought for the top spot: Estevan's Austin Daae, Midale's Devon Gonas, and Stoughton's own Gary Goudy Jr, and while the former two jostled position throughout the race, Daae held on and pulled ahead for the victory while Gonas crossed next, followed closely by Goudy Jr.

In the A Modifieds class, the wily veteran Ed Turnbull put on a performance to behold. Starting the race in the top spot means that every racer is gunning for you to begin with, and it didn't much matter on the result as Turnbull stayed on the inside for most of the race, kept his line, and never dropped a single lap to any of the competitors behind him, though post-race he seemed a little surprised that his competitors did not pick up on something from the race before.

"My son Tyson was on the top there in the feature, and he was faster on the top, I thought one of the Mod guys was going to go over the top there, and nobody moved up there, it was there," said Turnbull after his win.

As the elder Turnbull mentioned, his sons were also in action, though in the final race of the night with the Late Models coming in for a rare and exciting feature at the speedway this year. A good night for the Turnbull family turned to a great night as Aaron Turnbull did the same as his father, starting in pole position at the beginning of the race and driving his way around the track in the quickest race of the night. Aaron would finish well ahead of his brother Tyson who worked his way up from the very back of the pack to join his brother and dad on the podium for one of the final races of the season at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

Only two weekends remain in the Estevan race season, August 11 for their anti-bullying night, and their championship night on August 25.
