It was an eventful weekend at the Callie Curling Club in Regina this past weekend for the Haupstein team.

The team consisting of lead Abbey Johnson, second Emma Wiens, third Shayla Moore, skip Emily Haupstein, and coaches Danette Tracey and Clare Johnson claimed the U18 Provincial Championship.

The weekend started with an 8-2 win over Team Soika from Regina. The girls then faced team Madison Klieter out of Saskatoon and would lose 7-4. The girls would battle back winning 7-6 over Team Fahl, 9-6 over Team Ackerman, 6-4 over Klieter, and 9-0 over Team Remeshylo. The team found themselves in the "C" Event final against the defending champs in Team Ackerman. Haupstein would play a very strong game and win it 6-2.

The Weyburn girls won the "B" and "C" events which means team Madison Klieter, who won the "A" event, would have to beat them twice. It would end up being a tough battle with Team Haupstein losing on the last shot and fall 7-6. The two teams had a rematch in a winner-take-all game. Haupstein would start the game up 4-2 after half. The girls would go on to steal back to back points and jump to a 6-2 lead after six ends. Klieter fought back scoring three in the seventh. Facing one on her last, Emily Haupstein would draw the button with a little tap to win it all. A great judge and sweep by her front end of Wiens and Moore with Johnson calling line.

After the game Emily, Shayla, Emma, Abbey, Clare, and Danette had the traditional champions walk down the ice and were presented with the championship trophy and winners plaques. The girls were then presented with the coveted green jackets.

The Weyburn rink will be in Sherwood Park Alberta April 2nd to 7th at the under eighteen nationals as Team Saskatchewan.

The girls will be competing at provincials along with the boys champions of Team Bindig. Bindig did not start great, losing two of their first four games. The team  of Jayen Bindig, Nathan Pomedli, Braden Flieshhacker, Ethan Nygaard, and substitute coach Amber Holland won five straight to defend their provincial title.

Supporters of Team Haupstein can expect a send off party in the near future as these provincial champions will be celebrating their victory with the entire community.
