The Weyburn Red Wings continue to stay busy in the off-season and have announced their latest recruit for next season. Goaltender Joseph Young will join the red and white in 2019/2020.

Young spent three seasons with the Battlefords Stars Midget AAA team and exhausted his eligibility this past year. The 2001-born goalie posted a record of 8–15–0 with a 3.75 goals against average and a .900 save percentage to go along with one shutout. Young faced the second most shots in the league and made the second most saves in his 23 appearances. His Stars, unfortunately, missed the playoffs and finished 10th in the league.

The Regina native stands six feet tall and has been a key piece of the Battlefords team over the past few seasons.

"Joe is a warrior. He comes to play against each and every challenge that comes in front of him. His relentless effort and athletic abilities in goal held us in games and gave us a chance to win every single night," Stars head coach Brett Parker said. "He competes on all pucks and isn't shy about playing the puck to support the D. Joe plays for the love of the game and competes hard for his teammates. His infectious smile lights up the dressing room and provides a sense of confidence among his team."

Young will likely attend the Red Wings spring camp in a couple of weeks time and compete for a spot on the roster next season. Incumbents Ben Laidlaw and Cody Levesque will both return, but the 17-year-old will be sure to make a push for a roster spot in the fall.

He joins Braden Birnie, Liam Rutten and Luke Arndt as commits for next season.
