The Weyburn Red Wings will be putting their three-game winning streak on the line when they take the ice tonight against the Melville Millionaires. The game is the last one for the Wings ahead of their Christmas break.

The Wings enter the game ahead in the season series against Melville, having won three of the five games between the two this year. The Wings have also picked up points in each of the games, as Melville’s two wins came in overtime.

Part of the reason for the success of the Red Wings this season has been a well-balanced attack. Coming into tonight’s game, the Wings have seen every skater on the team pick up a point. Adding to that, all but three players have scored a goal. With a well-distributed offense, the Wings are seeing scoring from all four lines, which is something needed by any team once you get to the midway point of the campaign.

As for the Millionaires, they have shown bursts of brilliance at times this season, and have been tough to play against at home. However, they have seen a lot of traffic through their roster. The most recent change to their lineup was Connor Dochuk leaving the team, and Brandon Wells returning to the fold in goal. Wells started off the season with Trail in the BCHL, and comes to the Millionaires after 21 games, with a GAA of 3.15, and save percentage of .886.

The Red Wings will be looking to enter the Christmas break on a high note, although recent years haven’t been kind to them in the last game before the holidays. They have lost the last home game before the Christmas break the past four years and will want to snap the slump when they take the ice tonight.

The long break could have some bearing on the standings, as well. While Weyburn plays its last game tonight, the Estevan Bruins will have two more games. This means when the regular season resumes on December 30th, Weyburn will have two games in hand behind the Bruins in the chase for first in the Viterra Division.

The puck drops on tonight’s contest at 7:30 p.m., at Crescent Point Place.
