Three teams had their backs against the wall heading into SJHL quarterfinal action Sunday night, and all three teams facing elimination forced a decisive game seven as the playoff action continued.

The Flin Flon Bombers had found themselves down 3-0 in their best-of-seven series against the Battlefords North Stars.

In game six at the Whitney Forum Sunday, the Bombers were again down, trailing 4-3 heading into the third period. Flin Flon, facing elimination, drew some energy from their home fans, and rallied to tie the game up 4-4, and it looked like they could be heading to overtime for the fifth time in their series.

Then, Cade Kowalski scored the game-winner with just over six minutes remaining, and Daylan Marchi added an empty net goal to make it a 6-4 final.

Game seven in the series will be played Tuesday night in the Battlefords.

The Nipawin Hawks were stunned early in their series against the Yorkton Terriers, with the top-seeded team in the league down three games to one after the first four games. The Hawks, though, have proven why they were the top team in the league, rallying back to even up the series.

Sunday night, the Hawks picked up their first road win of the series, as Declan Hobbs stood on his head once again, turning away 40 of the 41 shots he faced as Nipawin skated to a 3-1 victory. Josh Lester’s second goal of the playoffs proved to be the game winner.

The teams will now meet in Nipawin Tuesday for the final game of the series.

The Humboldt Broncos looked to have their series against the Estevan Bruins easily in hand, outscoring the Bruins 20-12 in the first four games and taking a 3-1 series lead. The Bruins, though, had other things in mind, and the top team in the Viterra Division has closed the deficit, winning two games in a row, including a 4-1 victory in Humboldt Sunday night.

Four different players scored for the Bruins, and Grant Boldt stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced to earn the victory.

The Bruins will now host the Broncos for the decisive game seven Tuesday night at Affinity Place.
