Out of the 111 players selected to participate in the Canadian national under-17 development camp in Calgary this coming July, only three were selected from Saskatchewan, and one of those three is Weyburn’s Ethan Ernst. Ernst spent last season skating with the Midget AAA Notre Dame Hounds, helping the team to a national championship this spring.

The week-long camp will see the players split into six teams for one and off ice training, as well as fitness testing, practices, intrasquad games and classroom sessions. From the players at the camp, 66 will be named to one of three Canadian national teams - Team Canada Black, Red and White - who will be playing in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge this November.

In the past season, Ernst picked up 35 points in 41 games with the Hounds. He then added 11 more points in the playoffs, and seven points in the Telus Cup finals.
