The Weyburn Comp Eagles are already on the field, as they practice ahead of the start of the school year. With the first game of the season coming up in a little over a week, head coach Darren Abel is looking to get the team ready to improve on last year’s 2-4 record.

Abel said he is liking what he is seeing so far from the team in training camp.

“It’s been really good. We’ve been really pleased with the effort of the guys,” Abel explained during practice Monday afternoon.

One of those is former WCS Eagle and U of R Ram Kyle Paterson, who is working with the linemen. Abel says he isn’t the only new face.

“We’ve got a whole bunch of new coaches this year, which is great,” Abel added. “It brings something new to the group, and I’ve been very, very happy with how things have gone so far.”

The Eagles open the season on September 9th, when they host Swift Current at Darold Kot Field.
