The Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles football team fell to 1-4 on the season after a 35-7 loss Thursday night to the Peacock Tornadoes in Moose Jaw.

The Tornadoes jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the second quarter, thanks to running back Jackson Woloschuk. He picked up 293 yards on the ground and four touchdowns in the victory.

Peacock made it a 21-0 game with another Woloschuk rushing touchdown in the third quarter, then an interception by the Tornadoes set up the fourth TD of the day for Woloschuk. The Tornadoes added one more touchdown.

Weyburn’s lone touchdown came courtesy of Joel Nimegeers in the final minute of the game, as he scampered in for the TD.

Weyburn was held to just 184 yards on offense as Peacock’s defense would bend, but wouldn’t break throughout the game.

“It was a good first half by us, our defense was playing quite well, but our offense was killing ourselves with a whole bunch of penalties and that hurt,” said Weyburn head coach Darren Abel. “Peacock came out and showed the undefeated team that they are, but I’m proud of my guys for the effort today.”

Quarterback Brett Bowler threw for 55 yards in the loss, while Lance Palao was Weyburn’s top yard gainer with seven carries for 60 yards.

The Eagles close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host the Vanier Vikings at Darold Kot Field in Weyburn.
