It took overtime to resolve the McLeod series Wednesday night, and when it was all said and done, the Estevan Elecs captured their third title in a row, completing the come from behind win.

The Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles went into Estevan for the second leg of the 82nd installment of the rivalry series with a six point edge, after the two schools split the opening two games on February 8th in Weyburn. The night in Estevan would tip-off with the senior girls taking the court.

The WCS girls had topped the Elecs by 10 points in the first game last Wednesday, but were stunned in the rematch in Estevan. The Elecs took the game by a final of 68-54. The 14 point difference in the game meant the Elecs now had an eight point edge in the series. It would be up to the senior boys to rally back to win the McLeod Series for WCS.

In the game between the senior boys squads, the Elecs took the lead in the first quarter, but then Weyburn took over. They jumped out, and made up the difference, topping the Elecs 76-68.

The win for the boys meant the series was tied at two, and the combined scored was knotted up at 276. To find out who the winner was, a five minute overtime period would be played between the senior boys teams.

In the overtime period, the Elecs won 11-7, giving the school their third straight McLeod Series title. The Eagles still have the overall edge, having won the McLeod Series 43 times.

With the Elecs winning the McLeod Series, it means Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy will have to have some new attire for the next Weyburn City Council meeting on February 27th. He will be wearing an Elecs jersey at the meeting, honouring a bet he made with Estevan mayor Roy Ludwig.
