It was a solid opening round at the Dean & Deluca Invitational for Graham DeLaet. He closed out the opening day of the tournament with a 1-under 69, putting him four strokes back of the leaders in a tie for 24th as play began Friday.

The day didn’t start out the way DeLaet would have liked, as his shot a bogey on the opening par-5 of the Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas. He would bounce back, though, with a birdie on the 4th hole. He made a 21-foot putt from the fringe to pull back to even-par for the round.

After making the turn, DeLaet had back to back birdies on 10 and 11. On the 11th, he put his second shot 285 yards to the back of the green on the monstrous 635 yard par-5. Lying just 40 feet from the hole, he missed the eagle by just three feet and finished up with a small 3-footer to record the birdie.

After the success of the hole, he stumbled a bit, with a bogey on 12 after finding the sand on his second shot. Problems on the green didn’t help on 15, as he returned to even par after three-putting the hole.

On 17, though, he moved back below par with another birdie. His approach shot landed just 15 feet from the pin, and he made the easy putt to move to 1-under for the day, which is where he would stay.

DeLaet opens the second round at 12:28 p.m. Saskatchewan time, starting off on the back nine, where he had some moderate success Thursday.
