Day 2 of the Saskatchewan Winter Games is in the books, and once again, Team South East was in the thick of things. The athletes representing the region have so far picked up four gold medals, four silver medals and five bronze medals, for a total of 13. Here is a look at the results by sport.

Biathlon

Just 10-years-old, Karsen Gruber of White City finished 21st in the mass start race Tuesday. He finished with a time of 36.03. An interesting note regarding Gruber: he has only been competing in the sport for four months.

Curling

It was an up and down day for the Landon Field rink from Weyburn. They won their final round robin game, beating Parkland Valley 9-0. This left them with a record of 2-1 and setting up a tiebreaker game against Regina for 1st in the pool. Regina won the game by a final of 8-3. Finishing third in the pool, as a result, Field and company took on Lakeland in the playoffs. They lost 10-6. They will be on the ice this morning, against Parkland Valley again, in the ⅞ classification game.

Gymnastics

In the female all-around gymnastics, Julie Rush from Weyburn finished up the three events with scores of 8.700 on the balance beam, 8.375 in the floor exercise, and 8.650 in the vault, for a total of 25.725. Rush also competed in the all-around trampoline. She finished 15th overall, with scores of 45.366 and 53.600 for a total of 98.966.

Weyburn’s Jake Dammann was competing in the male all-around competition. On the floor exercise, he finished up with a 10.250, while scoring an 8.600 on the horizontal bar, and an 11.200 on the vault. His total for the day was 30.050.

In the rhythmic gymnastics competition, there were three athletes from Team South East. Amaya Drumm, from Wawota, scored a 7.550 in the free event, and 6.450 in the hoop, for a total of 14.000. Skylar Webster, who hails from Indian Head, recorded a 7.300 in the free event, and 5.300 in the hoop, and Maryfield’s Maci Thompson was awarded a 6.500 in the free event, and 4.950 in the hoop for a total of 11.450.

Hockey

In their final round robin game, Team South East skated to a 2-2 draw with Rivers West. This had South East finishing second in the pool. They now advance to the bronze medal game, which will be played at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Judo

A gold medal for the South East in the female Judo team competition. Consisting of Paige Irwin from Kronau, Trysten Reder from Sedley, and Montmartre’s Christina Stringer, the team beat Regina, and Rivers West en route to the gold.

Speed Skating

In the male 200m, two skaters from Team South East were competing. Donnie Elder skated a 27.199 in the final, and Ashton Kincaid wrapped up with a time of 26.708 in the final. Both were outside the medals.

In the 400m finals, Elder and Kincaid wrapped up with times of 53.759 and 51.537 respectively.

In the 2000m male relay, Team South East posted the fourth fastest time in the preliminaries, at 4:29.360. The finals will run Wednesday morning.

Synchronized Swimming

Hannah Mantei of Estevan picking up a bronze medal in the solo event. She finished with a score of 112.4998. Also competing in the solo event was Alexis Vandermey, who scored a 110.6501, and Rebecca Duncan, who scored 104.7667.

In the Duet event, Nyla Dyck and Marlie Weinrauch from Estevan finished just off the podium, coming in fourth with a score of 110.9667. Weyburn’s Megan Dammann and Marley Kradovill ended with a score of 106.2835.

In the Team event, South East wrapped up the preliminaries with a score of 56.2001. The finals are Wednesday morning.

Target Shooting

In the female individual air pistol, Lauren Kohl from Montmartre finished the preliminaries tied for first place, with a score of 339. Kohl also won a silver medal in the super final air pistol.

Indian Head’s Kyle Stewart wrapped up the male individual air pistol with a score of 440 in qualification. Craig Waffle from Balgonie recorded a 352. The finals will be held Wednesday. Stewart also fired a 502.7 in the qualification for the air rifle open and came in sixth in the super final air pistol competition.

Victoria Stewart, who hails from Indian Head, scored a 315.6 in the qualifications for the female air rifle open. The finals are Wednesday.

Weightlifting

A gold medal for Carlyle’s Jorja Bendtsen in the 69 kg female category. Aaron Chapman from Carlyle won a silver in the male 85 kg group. Karli Colpitts from Carlyle picked up a gold as well, in the 75 kg female group.
