The Saskatchewan Roughriders and head coach, Chris Jones, have been fined by the CFL for violating league rules.

The club was fined $31,500 for allowing players to attend practice while on the CFL suspension list.

And Jones himself was fined $5,000 for meeting with the publicist for former NFL quarterback, Johnny Manziel, who is on Hamilton's negotiation list. However, the league says there was no evidence of the Riders holding any workouts involving Manziel.

The Roughriders and Jones issued a brief statement., saying they accept the disciplinary action,

They said they had been forthcoming with the CFL office on any information it requested. And, they added they look forward to moving on and continuing to prepare for the 2017 season.
