The Carnduff Red Devils are now in second place in the Big Six Hockey League with 24 points, although their stay there may be temporary. They picked up a crucial two points Tuesday night when they beat the visiting Bienfait Coalers 8-5.

Helping guide the Red Devils to the win was the play of Devon Carriere and Nico Anderson. The two players each picked up a hat trick in the win.

The offence from the Coalers also saw a hat trick, with Dylan Herzberg putting up three goals.

Carnduff was first on the board when Carriere scored with 9:31 left in the period. The tally was assisted by Anderson and Trevor Geiger. The lead wouldn’t last long, though.

Just 36 seconds later, Bienfait evened things up. Herzberg scored his first of the night, with Wyatt Garagan and Keegan Malaryk recording the assists.

Carnduff regained the lead before the end of the period, as Carriere scored again with 5:57 to go in the opening frame. His goal was assisted by Tanner Reynolds and Blake McMillen.

In the second period, the Coalers tied things up and didn’t take too much time to do so. Just 1:07 into the period, Herzberg scored his second of the night. The goal was set up by Ryan Curzon and Dallas Kickley.

The back and forth affair continued when the Red Devils again took the lead. Carriere rounded out his hat trick with 7:05 remaining in the second. His tally was assisted by Anderson and McMillen.

The lead would last just over 90 seconds, as Herzberg finished off his hat trick. Garagan assisted on the goal which knotted the game up at 3-3.

Carnduff regained the lead in the third period when Anderson scored his first of the night at the 2:12 mark. His goal was assisted by Geiger and Kody Martin. Again, the Coalers fought back to tie the game.

It would be Malaryk who would score the equalizer, assisted by Garagan and Herzberg. The goal came just over three minutes after the Red Devils took the lead.

With 12:28 showing on the clock, Anderson scored his second of the game, which made it 5-4 for the home team and giving them a lead they wouldn’t surrender for the remainder of the night. The goal was assisted by Martin.

Carnduff then made it a 6-4 game when Blake McMillen scored at the 9:12 mark. His tally was assisted by Mark Moriarty and Brandon Trask.

The Coalers replied back as they rallied to gain the tie again. They scored just eight seconds after McMillen, as Malatryk notched his second of the night. He was assisted on the goal by Herzberg, who finished the night with five points in total.

It wouldn’t be enough, though. With the net empty, Anderson finished off his hat trick with 1:24 left on the clock. Geiger and McMillen assisted on the goal. Geiger would score one more of his own with just six seconds remaining. Martin and McMillen assisted.

The win moves the Red Devils up into second place in the Big Six Hockey League with 24 points. They have one game remaining, and if they want to hold onto it, will need some help from the opponents of the Redvers Rockets and Carlyle Cougars.

The Coalers remain tied with Midale for fifth in the league, with each team having two games left on the schedule, including a match-up against each other on Thursday.
