With teams in the Big Six Hockey League getting ready for the final stretch before the postseason, there is still a lot of options for how things will settle for the postseason. With teams tied for first, third and sixth, there isn’t a lot of wiggle room amongst the top seven teams in the league. There is even the chance for a few teams outside of the logjam in the standings to make a push and add to the jumble.

For the Kipling/Windthorst Oil Kings, they are hoping to get a run started Friday night when they host the Midale Mustangs in Windthorst. This will be the first time this season the two teams have met up.

The Wheat Kings are led offensively by Carson Harcourt, who has picked up 13 points in 11 games so far this season. He will be looked at to provide some offence against a Midale Mustangs team which is currently tied for third place in the standings with 14 points.

Midale has a lot of momentum on their side, having won their last five games, including holding off Wawota on Tuesday to pick up a 2-1 win.

After playing the Mustangs on Friday, the Oil Kings then travel to Redvers on Saturday to take on the Rockets. Midale hosts Bienfait.

Redvers will also be in action on Friday, as they entertain the Bienfait Coalers. The Coalers sit two points back of Redvers, who are caught up in the three-way tie for third in the standings.

The match-up will see two potent offences coming together. The Rockets are led by Kenton Miller, who leads the Big Six with 28 points on the season. Not far behind him is Bienfait’s Dylan Herzberg, who has 23.

The Coalers last game was a 5-3 loss to the Oxbow Huskies Tuesday night. For the Rockets, they are coming off a loss as well, after dropping a 7-1 decision to the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings last Sunday.

The Carlyle Cougars are hoping to take advantage of an idle Yellow Grass Wheat Kings squad to move into sole possession of 1st place when they take on the Oxbow Huskies. This is the second and final game between these two teams. The Cougars took the first match-up by a final of 8-5 back on December 7th.

As for Oxbow, they need to pick up the victory if they want to try to keep pace with Kipling/Windthorst. The Huskies also have some momentum, coming off a 5-3 win over the Coalers Tuesday night, which saw Klae Bayda record a hat trick.

The final game Friday night has the Carnduff Red Devils travelling to take on the Arcola/Kisbey Combines. The Combines are coming off a rough night against the Wheat Kings on Thursday when they fell 10-4.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, are looking to pick up the win to push them closer to the top two teams in the league, as Carnduff is caught up in the pack tied for third place with 14 points.

Carnduff will finish off the weekend on Saturday when they host the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings.

For the Wheat Kings, they play on Saturday and Sunday. They will enter the weekend looking to keep pace with the Cougars, however, they also hold a game in hand. The Wheat Kings have also shown to have the most potent offence in the league, already amassing 83 goals for in just 12 games.

After hosting Carnduff on Saturday, the Wheat Kings will then take on Wawota at home Sunday night.

The Wawota Flyers sit just behind the logjam for third with 12 points and are hoping to move up, out of sixth place. Sunday’s game will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
