The Weyburn Beavers came away with their second win in a row Friday night, when they walloped the Yorkton Cardinals 10-4 at Tom Laing Park. The win saw Luis Jimenez continue to make his mark with the team, as he drove in five runs. Connor DiNaro struck out four over seven innings of work for the Beavers to earn the win.

The Beavers were quick to get on the board, with Brady Nygaard driving in Jimenez in the first inning. The Cardinals replied in the second, as Daniel Hawkins hit a homerun that was carried by the wind to just over the left field fence, tying the game up. The Beavers would add to their total in the bottom of the second, and never looked back.

Thanks to an error by the Yorkton shirtstop, the Beavers were able to extend their inning, and loaded the bases. Jimenez hit a single to right field, and it was deep enough to clear the bags, scoring three runs.

In the third, Weyburn made it a 6-1 game with Cam Williams driving in a run. then, Zach Mathis, in his first game with the Beavers, was hit by a pitch with loaded bases. This would bring home a run. Yorkton did add single runs in the the third, fourth and eighth innings, but the Beavers weren’t finished with their own scoring.

In the seventh, Jimenez drove in two more runs, while RBI doubles by Ulysses Fluellen and Nygaard padded the lead.

The Beavers will play host to the Cardinals again Saturday night at Tom Laing Park. The game starts at 7:05.
