The Weyburn Beavers played their first home game in over a week Thursday night, and the comfort they enjoy at Tom Laing Park was evident throughout the night. The Beavers topped the Yorkton Cardinal 8-2, moving Weyburn into third place in the East Division.

The Beavers put up three runs in the first inning, thanks to doubles from Zach Mathis and Anthony Wiggins. A single from Brady Nygaard also drive in a run. Weyburn had a total for four doubles on the night, with Evan Weidner and Nygaard adding their own later in the game.

Yorkton made the game close in the third when Parker Smejkal hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the fence in right-center. Weyburn would restore the three-run edge in the bottom of the third, though, as they added two more runs on singles by Ty Scott and Cam Williams.

A sacrifice fly by Zach Frazier in the seventh made it 6-2 Beavers, and they increased the lead in the bottom of the eighth as Wiggins and Scott each drove in a run.

On the mound, Cody Pamperin went six innings, striking out six and allowing two earned runs. Brodie Stairs and Lane Fazende combined to finish off the game. Kyle Stevenson was credited with the loss for the Cardinals.

The Beavers are now off to Melville for a game Friday night against the Millionaires. Saturday, they will be in Swift Current to take on the 57’s, and Sunday will be a return match-up with Swift Current at Tom Laing Park.
