A two-run home run from Corey Harrell in the third inning, a two-RBI triple by Felix Correa in the fifth inning and a solo home run from Corey Wheaton powered the Weyburn Beavers Wednesday night to a 10-3 win over the Regina Red Sox. With the win, the Beavers now lead the best-of-five WMBL East Division final 2-1.

The Beavers started scoring in the first inning, and for the first half of the game, put up at least two runs every other inning, including a five-run performance in the fifth, led by the triple from Correa. Correa finished the game going 2-for-5 with the two RBI.

Corey Harrell had a two run home run in the third.Harrell, whose home run travelled an estimated 364 feet over the left field fence, hit his blast in the second while going 4-for-5 at the plate, including a double, with three RBI. Harrell also crossed the plate twice, while improving his average for the postseason to .526.

Wade Weinberger, who had three home runs and 11 RBI so far in the postseason, continued his strong performance at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

On the mound, Landon Mostellar shook off any lingering effects from his last start, where he was chased in the second inning, and lasted seven innings. He struck out four while allowing three runs, two earned on four hits.

Mostellar was relieved by Ken Williams, who tossed the last two innings. Williams struck out two while allowing two hits.

The scoring started for the Beavers in the first inning, when Weinberger found himself in a familiar situation: runners on base in the first inning. Facing a similar situation Tuesday, Weinberger hit a home run. Wednesday night, he settled for a single to right field which brought in Wheaton from second base.

The next batter was Harrell who hit his double to center. This scored Weinberger and gave Weyburn the 2-0 lead.

The Red Sox replied in the bottom of the first when Wesley Moss led off with a triple, and Adam De La Cruz hit a double to left, bringing in Moss. It would prove to be one of the rare bright spots on offence from Regina.

The third inning saw Harrell hit his home run after Weinberger reached base with a walk.

Felix Correa's two-run triple in the fifth helped seal the victory. The fifth saw the Beavers blow it wide open, as they tacked on five runs. Weinberger started it off with a single to first which scored Wheaton and Keaton Greenwalt. Harrell reached base on a fielder’s choice and was followed up with a single from Pilat. The next batter, Correa, smacked a deep triple in the gap in left centre.

Cam Williams finished the inning off, as an error by the third baseman allowed Correa to score.

In the bottom of the fifth, Regina got some offence going to try to close the gap. It started with the bases getting loaded, and a sacrifice fly to right by Jahshua Jones. Phil Langlois then brought in Wesley Moss with a sacrifice fly to center. This would prove to be the last runs scored in the game for Regina.

The sixth inning saw the Red Sox swap in Brian Raymond for Peyton Burks. Burks went five innings, giving up nine runs, all earned, on 11 hits, while striking out five.

The new pitcher was welcomed to the game by Wheaton, who sent a towering shot over the fence for his first home run of the playoffs. The solo blast increased the score to 10-3.

The next game in the series will be played Thursday night in Regina. The Beavers will be looking to close things up, which would propel them into their first league championship in team history. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and Discover Weyburn will be there for full coverage of the game.
