The Weyburn Beavers are no just two games back of the Regina Red Sox for first in the East Division of the WMBL, after taking back-to-back games over the Red Sox at Currie Field. The most recent game, a 4-1 victory Tuesday night.

The Beavers saw a strong pitching performance from starter Austin Gurr, who went seven innings, allowing just one run on two hits. Lane Fazende took care of the eighth inning, then Eric Evans picked up the save, further solidifying his position as the top closer in franchise history.

The Beavers continued to take advantage of speed and extra base hits to get the job done, with four of their 10 hits being doubles. Luis Jimenez, Zach Mathis, Evan Weidner and Brett Young all recorded two-baggers, while Mathis and Weidner were credited with RBI’s. Awareness on the base paths also helped the Beavers, as one of their runs came on a wild pitch.

The Beavers will look to make it five wins in a row tonight, as they host the Melville Millionaires at Tom Laing Park. The Millionaires have given the Beavers trouble this season, though. Melville has won all three previous matchups, played at Pirie Field in Melville. The game tonight starts at 7:05 p.m.
