The Weyburn Beavers went to extra innings for the second time in three games Friday night, but came up just short in the 11th inning, as they fell 6-5 to the Regina Red Sox last night. The loss is the fourth in a row for the Beavers.

Regina got on the board in the first inning with two home runs, including Justin Erlandson taking the second pitch of the game from Landon Mostellar yard, with Aden Campbell following up with one later in the inning.

In the third, Jordan Schulz hit a solo home run, the third for the Red Sox on the day, but the Beavers would reply in the bottom half of the inning. Carlos Flores was hit by a pitch with bases loaded, bring home Luis Jimenez. Anthony Wiggins then brought in two runs with a single to right field. With that, the game was tied 3-3.

Regina would take the lead once again in the fifth inning, as Broderick Rodocker hit a two-run shot for the Red Sox, putting them up 5-3. Ulysses Fluellen would keep things close in the bottom half, as he hit his first home run of the year for the Beavers. In the sixth, Weyburn would make it a tie game when Jimenez came across the plate for the second time on the day after Brett Young hit into a fielder’s choice.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock in regulation, forcing two extra innings to be played. It would be a triple by Derek Slate of the Red Sox in the 11th that would score Phil Langlois to put Regina ahead. The Beavers did manage to get one baserunner on in the bottom of the inning, but a deep fly out to right field by Carlos Flores would end the game.

The Beavers will now get Saturday off before they take on the Moose Jaw Miller Express for the Father’s Day matinee game.
