The Bantam AA Crescent Point Energy Wings have punched their ticket to the next round of the playoffs. They swept their series against the Estevan Bantam Bruins in two games, after a 4-3 win Thursday night.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period, but the second saw them make up for the lack of goals in the opening frame. They would combine for six goals, setting up the chance for an exciting third period.

The Wings were the first on the board when Andrew Altwasser scored his first of the playoffs at the 5:37 mark of the period. Cooper Chisholm assisted on the goal. The Bruins would respond in short order. Kieran Stewart scored on the power play for the visitors, tying the game up at one.

The Wings took the lead back just 58 seconds later. Jake Young tallied, with Mason Thackeray and Ryker Watt credited with the helpers on the goal.

Estevan kept themselves in the game, though, tying it up again with 8:15 left in the period. Makon Kukra scored the marker for the Bruins.

Rylan Erb restored the lead for the Wings at the 16:46 mark, with a little help from Chisholm, who picked up his second point of the night. Estevan wasn’t done, though. Nathan Wagstaff would score just 20 seconds later, sending the game into the third period with the two team tied at three.

The Wings wouldn’t let the lead stand for long, though. Dallen Oxelgren scored just 44 seconds into the third, giving Weyburn a 4-3 lead. Dylan Ernst then turned away all 11 shots faced in the final frame to pick up the win.

Weyburn now advances to the second round of the SBAAHL playoffs. They will be taking on the Swift Current Bantam Broncos. No dates for the series have been set.
