After the 2020 Weyburn Beavers Sports Dinner was cancelled due to COVID-19, the baseball club is coming back with dinner this year in a new format. This year, the dinner is being held in a virtual format.

Attendees will be able to enjoy the guest speaker from the comfort of their own home, taking part in meal specials that the club has helped set up with sponsors from the community. Those who purchase the tickets will receive log-in information for a Zoom webinar that will be held on Saturday, March 20th. The event will feature a question and answer session with Gibbons.

In addition to the dinner, there will also be a 50/50 draw held in conjunction with the event, as well as a silent auction which includes items such as an autographed game-used Jose Bautista glove, and a Robbie Alomar-signed bat.

This year, the guest speaker is former Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons. Through his two stints with the team, the first from 2004 to 2008 and the second from 2013 to 2018, Gibbons guided the club to 793 wins in the regular season and a 10-10 postseason record. In his final season, Gibbons was ejected seven times, more than any manager in the majors that year.

We had the chance to catch up with Gibbons ahead of the dinner on Saturday. You can get a preview of what you can expect during the dinner below.
